Kristin of Kristin Ashley Events contacted me about shooting this Ocean Club Bahamas wedding and I immediately googled the venue and my jaw hit the ground and my answer was a resounding YES with one small detail – I had to meet the lovely bride. To say I was nervous to get her approval was a complete understatement but the moment we met I felt like I was having lunch with an old friend.
Kate was as genuine as they come and I adored everything about the way she talked about Tyler. She talked about him as though he was her best friend in the world but also someone she completely admired. We chatted over amazing Mission Tacos subsequently sealing the deal! Their engagement session was so much fun and the best way to get to know them together. He is so sweet with her and encourages her in all that she does.
All the stars aligned for Kate and Tylers incredible wedding day in the beautiful Bahamas. It rained the days before and the morning of and the winds picked up just before the weather cleared suddenly just in time for the two to see each other before saying their vows.
The morning of the wedding Tyler entrusted me with a green box to give Kate after she got her dress on and was ready for jewelry. Her best friend Krystle handed her the box and instantly Kate read the name on top Simon’s and she knew. She had seen a stunning pair of earrings months back that she never did get but she loved. He found them and hid them from her on the trip for her to open on their wedding day. It was the perfect something blue.
Their first look set the stage for the whole day. She was magnificent and the look on his face was priceless. The laughed together as she adjusted his pocket square and lovingly combed his hair through with her fingers. We made a pit stop at their hotel room so Kate to present him with a privately commissioned Jane Waterous painting. She is an internationally renowned artist living in the Bahamas who has her work displayed in the lobby of the Ocean Club and they had fallen in love with it the year before when they visited.
The rest of the day went off without a hitch. The most amazing team at Kristin Ashley Events was sure to make certain nothing was missed. Every single detail throughout the day was amazing. The ceremony was breathtaking at the Cloisters. They are the remains of a 12th-century french augustinian monastery now on beautiful paradise island and I can’t imagine a more gorgeous location to say your vows! Guests were amazed at the beautiful gardens where the cocktail hour was held near the lily pond. The reception boasted the most beautiful table with cafe lights strewn overhead. They toasted to their love with the most hysterical stories of their childhoods and young entrepreneurial adventures. The day was the most incredible start to a wonderful life together for the two of them and I was thrilled to be there to witness.

She contacted me some months after her brothers wedding we photographed and I still remembered her smile and laugh from that day. She has a contagious energy and the most welcoming demeanor of anyone I have ever met. I was all in. They selected two of my favorite venues that were the perfect balance for them. The gorgeous St. Francis Xavier College Church that leaves guests searching around admiring its beauty before the procession begins. The ceremony was rich with tradition in the grand space but felt so intimate.
We took some time for photos before we broke for a pit stop at the Planter’s House just minute from the venue. The wedding party sipped out of copper mugs and laughed and recounted hilarious stories of the night before. The party relocated to the City Cottage which is perhaps the coziest venue. The ornate woodwork extends the length of the bar and in the dining room the exposed brick walls fireplaces make you feel like you stepped back in time. Out back on the patio, the wood oven crackled and warmed for late night pizzas and a piñata dangled full of small airplane bottles of booze that the party goers took full advantage of when Joe broke it open late night.
There are certain things that always catch my attention during a wedding day. One being the sincerity of the speeches and the reaction of the couple. You can tell a lot about a couple during the speeches as an indication of what the future holds. They burst out laughing at themselves and at each other in the most heartwarming way. Wishing you both a life rich with laughter full – also a little prayer that you got a really great vacuum as a wedding gift.

Annie and Brian met their first year at The University of Dayton. They had Monday night chemistry lab together where they met and after countless weekly dinner dates, intramural volleyball games, and shared mass at the chapel, they were engaged in Annie’s Hometown of St. Louis at Art Hill in Forest Park making it the perfect place to celebrate their dream wedding.
On the day of their wedding, Annie opened the door to her family home rendering me speechless. She was magnificent. Dad was totally relaxed while Mom was the cutest alternating between laughing, beaming, and crying at the sight of her beautiful soon-to-be-wed daughter. The guys relaxed at the hotel and were all smiles and the perfect gentlemen.
Both of their faces when they saw each other were perfect – a look of complete joy and admiration for the other. Neither could stop smiling the whole rest of the day. They were married in the gorgeous St. Francis Xavier College Church and after the ceremony the wedding party brought their A game when we had them out in the cold (really cold) weather!
The party continued at the reception where the fabulous Alaynne Allen of Catering St. Louis had put together the most awe-evoking reception space with the most beautiful cake from Sarah’s Cake Shop in the center of the room. My friends at Bloomin’ Buckets did a magnificent job with the florals. Annie’s sister Emma made each of the table numbers by hand. It was perfect. The toasts had us all rolling and the Hog Trough Dance was a first for many of us and was an incredible addition to fabulous dance spectacular.
Annie and Brian – THANK YOU for letting me and Sherry be a part of this special day for you.

These two are St. Louis to the core! They chose the historic World’s Fair Pavilion for their reception venue while getting married in an intimate church ceremony. It was the perfect balance of love for family and love for all things St. Louis and Cardinals and Blues! When they initially told me their wedding date and told me that they had secured the World’s Fair Pavilion for that date my jaw dropped knowing how incredibly gorgeous the park was oh that date the year before. You never know with St. Louis weather what to expect so it could have been 90 degrees or 20 on their wedding day. But wouldn’t ya know it – we had the most unlikely PERFECT 70 degree day in St. Louis on their wedding day.
The whole day was perfectly theirs. The girls hung out at her parents house and watched the Mizzou game while they took turns getting dolled up in the makeup chair. Alternating shouting at the TV and applying lipstick. My idea of the best balanced gals. On the mantle were three hand stitched baseballs with their names and wedding date in cardinal red. The guys meanwhile hung out at the hotel where they too rooted on Mizzou and each proudly wore their Cardinals socks under their suits before heading to the church. Jessica walked down the aisle with her dad to meet her groom. They said their vows to her grandfather making it an incredibly special moment for the family before leaving to Henry Purcell’s Trumpet Tune.
We hit up almost every one of their absolute favorite spots before heading to the World’s Fair Pavilion including Kiener Plaza, Busch Stadium, Scottrade Center, and Forest Park where the leaves were a sight to see and I don’t know that I will ever see them as perfectly red as they were on their day.. We were thrilled to have the team of Shadow + Light there for video and we had so much fun capturing Jessica and John’s day together. Will with Millennium Productions was a welcome face once we arrived at the World’s Fair Pavilion as we quickly realized things were about to get a lot more fun. The dancing was non-stop, there was a s’mores bar, and a sparkler exit to top it all off. Beyond thrilled that we were able to be a part of this special day!
